How to Bid — Tutorial

Step-by-step guide to registering, bidding, winning, paying and receiving items on MWM, the B2B wholesale auction for authenticated pre-owned luxury from Japan.

Getting Set Up

Three things before you start bidding

Three things to set up

Before your first offer, there are three things worth doing: choosing your currency, adding a shipping address, and picking your language. Each takes under a minute.

Language

Choose your payment currency

Account Settings lets you pick the currency your invoices are shown in. Offers themselves are always placed in US dollars — changing this setting only changes how the amounts look on screen.

Add a shipping address

My Account is where you add shipping addresses — up to three — and mark one as the default. It's separate from your billing address, and you can still pick a different one per invoice.

Where everything lives

Wholesale is where you browse and offer. Tap & Buy is the fast, one-item-at-a-time view for your phone. My Bids tracks your offers, and My Orders holds your invoices. Everything else is in the User Guide.

How Bidding Works

Browse, offer, and see how the pricing really works

Find items to offer on

Browse the active Wave, filter by category, brand, or price, and look out for items marked No bids — nobody has offered on them yet.

No bids

Other buyers' offers stay hidden

This is a sealed-bid sale: you never see how many buyers have offered on an item, or how much. Since you can't react to anyone else's number, there's nothing to gain by waiting.

Hidden until the close

Only bidder? You pay the listed price

If you're the only one who offers on an item, you win it at the listed price and your premium is never charged. If two or more buyers offer, the highest offer wins and pays its own amount — the listed price is always the floor.

This is the one rule to remember: your invoice can never be higher than the amount you actually offered.

Same offer? Earliest wins

If two buyers happen to submit the exact same amount, the one who offered first wins. When you're torn between offering now or later, sooner is the safer choice.

Tap & Buy: the fast way to offer

Swipe through items one at a time. The quick buttons each add a fixed amount to your offer and show you the total you'd pay — tap one, type your own amount and tap Want, or tap Skip / Next to move on. If you leave the amount empty, Bid asks you to tap once more to confirm.

Or tap Skip / Next to move on

Two things to know about Tap & Buy

Swiping left or right only flips through that item's photos — it doesn't move you to the next item; use Skip / Next for that. And once you've already offered on an item, the quick buttons add to your current offer, not to the listed price, so check the Your current offer line before you tap.

See how many lots you're leading

The header shows how many lots you currently hold the top offer on. It updates once an hour and stops an hour before the close — it's a snapshot, not a guarantee, since another buyer can still outbid you before the deadline.

The deadline, and what happens next

In the final hour before a Wave closes, the standings snapshot stops updating — that's expected, not a bug. Once the Wave closes, winners are decided automatically and the results go out by email.

A weekly Sunday auction: Sunday Lowprice Auction

Lots tagged Sunday Lowprice Auction close every Sunday at 9:00 PM Pacific Time, separately from the regular Waves. Every lot starts at $0.99. Many lots also show a Winning Bid: bid that amount or more and you win the lot on the spot at the Winning Bid price. Winning Bid purchases can't be cancelled and are invoiced with your other Sunday lots after the auction closes. Each lot's own countdown is the real deadline. Lots that don't sell come back the following Sunday.

Some lots are sold by auction

Alongside the sealed-bid Waves, part of the catalogue is sold by open auction. Bidding opens at $0.99, the price is visible to everyone, and it rises while the lot is live. Each lot closes at its own time.

Bid your maximum, not your next step

Enter the most you are willing to pay and we bid for you, raising the price only as far as it takes to stay ahead. There is no reserve, so the highest bid at the close wins the lot whatever the amount.

A bid in the final 30 seconds pushes the clock back to 30 seconds again, so a lot never closes while people are still bidding.

Enter your maximum

We raise the price only as far as needed

A late bid extends the clock

A bid can't be taken back

You can raise your maximum at any time, but you can never lower it or cancel a bid. If you hold the highest bid when the lot closes, you have bought it and an invoice follows.

The only discount on an auction lot is the 4% card-payment discount on the invoice. Shipping is charged as usual.

invoices

Winning sends you an invoice

When a Wave closes, invoices for the items you won are emailed to you and listed in My Orders, broken down item by item.

If your total for a Wave passes US$2,500, it arrives as more than one invoice — that's expected, not a mistake.

How and when to pay

Pay by card within 5 days of the invoice date. Paying by card also takes 4% off automatically, no code needed. A late payment adds 1.5% per month to the balance.
